![]() ![]() This project, requested by the scientific community including the International Biosphere Geosphere Program (IGBP) and the Commission of the European Union (CEU) as well as the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) team amongst others, is directly related to the studies of the Global Change affecting our planet. ESA/ESRIN is also participating in the international “Global 1 km Land Cover AVHRR Data Set” project in collaboration with NOAA, NASA, USGS and CSIRO. The development of higher level and Fast Delivery Products, as well as more refined tools to browse and/or place an order electronically for all archived data and products are in progress. The processing, format and archiving of these products, as well as access to them, are all described in this chapter. The data archive, catalogue and set of image Quick Look products is located and maintained at ESRIN, in Frascati. The network delivers information which is then converted by the ESA in-house processing system to a number of output products in a common format. It concentrates on that part of the community concerned with land applications, for which the Earthnet Coordinated Tiros Network (ECTN) (incorporating operational receiving stations in Europe, Africa and South-East Asia) was specifically established in 1986. This paper describes the operational environment from which the European Space Agency (ESA) delivers AVHRR data from the NOAA satellites to the user community. ![]()
